Port Stanley United Church
239 Colborne Street, Port Stanley

Some of the lovely old Central Elgin churches which have been featured on Doors Open exist almost unchanged from the time when they were first built. This can not be said of Port Stanley's United Church.
Prior to 1842, services of the Wesleyan Methodist congregation in Port Stanley were held in the village schoolhouse on Francis Street. In that year a frame church was built on the east bank of Kettle Creek and later moved to lot 8 on Colborne Street, the site of the present church which was erected in 1889. Church amalgamation occurred in 1925 and this building became the United Church of Canada. In 1962 a Christian education building was added, and the active congregation has continued to update and renovate the structure. Visitors to Doors Open 2014 are invited to meet members of the congregation and view the many changes which have been made to the structure over the years.
